Honoring Capt. Sally

On Oct. 17, members of the Middle Peninsula Amateur Radio Club participated in an “Over-the-Air” special event using club call W4HZL. Operating from Williams Wharf in Mathews commemorating the life of Captain Sally Tompkins for her outstanding contribution to the care of Civil War soldiers at the Robertson Hospital in Richmond, 81 contacts were made with ham operators who will receive a special QSL card with information about her works. Some were invited to visit the Tompkins House in nearby Mathews and learn more about her contribution to the history of this area. Shown here from left are Bobby Forrest, Danny Wright, club president Kenny Skirvin and Lee Wood.
