‘Holly & Ivy’ carol sing to be held Monday at Historic Christ Church

A local tradition continues on Monday as Historic Christ Church hosts “The Holly & The Ivy,” its annual carol sing inside the 1735 historic church, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The church is located at 420 Christ Church Road, Weems. Admission is two non-perishable food items or donations for the Healthy Harvest Food Bank.

“The Holly & The Ivy” began in 2002 as a carol sing for volunteers. In 2007, the program was expanded to include both the community and instrumental and choral groups. The outstanding acoustics of the church’s soaring arched ceiling showcase the beautiful sounds of the performers and the audience, said Robert Teagle, executive director at Historic Christ Church & Museum.

This year, approximately 60 singers will be on hand, including members of the Chesapeake Chorale, Nouvelet, and Four to the Floor. Dr. Cheryl Brown Davis will serve as director, with accompanists Arline Hinkson and Beth Conley. The audience will be encouraged to lift their voices and sing along to well-known carols, such as “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “Joy to the World.”

The museum and gift shop will be open from 2-3 p.m. for guests to do some holiday shopping and to enjoy the many interesting exhibits.

Following the concert, guests are invited to a reception in HCC&M’s Bayne Center for mulled cider, coffee, and homemade cookies. For more information, visit ChristChurch1735.org or contact the foundation office at 804-438-6855.
