Holleran gives one-year notice to school board

Mathews County Superintendent of Schools Dr. David J. Holleran has put the school board on notice that the 2014-2015 school year will be his last as the division’s top administrator.

He made the announcement during Tuesday night’s school board meeting, which was held in the Mathews High School media center. Holleran, 51, said he gave the somewhat lengthy notice in order to provide the school board with sufficient time to find a successor and insure a smooth administrative transition.

“I want the board to have plenty of time to find somebody,” he said after Tuesday’s meeting.

When Holleran steps down as superintendent next June, he will have served 12 years. Prior to that, Harry M. Ward served 17 years as Mathews County schools superintendent.
