Six Mathews County churches were open Saturday for a tour sponsored by the Mathews County Historical Society. A “small but enthusiastic crowd” took advantage of the chance to learn history of the churches from guides, and that the tour was “blessed with a beautiful day,” according to tour chair Reed Lawson. Grace Methodist was built in 1896 and welcomed Providence Church members from Miles when that church closed in 1948.
