Historical Society sponsors trip to Stratford Hall

The 2023 Wine and Oyster Festival at Stratford Hall, located in Westmoreland County, is being held Sept. 16 and 17. The Mathews County Historical Society is sponsoring a bus trip on Sunday, Sept. 17.

Stratford Hall is one of the great houses of American history. It was established in the 1730s by Thomas Lee, the ancestor of Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee, signers of the Declaration of Independence, and Robert E. Lee, superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, a leader of the armies of the Confederacy and president of Washington College.

Virginia wineries, distilleries, cideries, local oysters, food trucks, beer, artisan booths, live music, car shows and more are featured. Self-guided tours of the Great House are available. MCHS will provide a hospitality tent for its festival-goers.

Ticket prices include samples from the wineries, cideries and distilleries, as well as the bus fare. Food truck selections and beer are available at an additional cost...
