Historic Garden Week cancelled for first time since WWII

Historic Garden Week 2020 is officially cancelled. The event, which had been planned statewide for the week of April 18-25, was put on hold this year over concerns of COVID-19. It has been sponsored annually since 1929 by the Garden Club of Virginia, and locally by the Garden Club of Gloucester.

Locally, four Mathews County homes were scheduled to be open
to the public on April 18—Weston Hall, Riverlawn, Palace Green and Samarkand.
Christ Episcopal Church was to be the headquarters. The Garden Club of
Gloucester had organized the tour.

Peggy Montgomery, chair of the local tour and member of the local club, expressed regret that circumstances made it necessary to cancel. She said online tickets that have been purchased through Eventbrite will automatically be refunded to the purchaser’s charge card. Tickets which have been purchased locally will be refunded by Margaret Singleton (804-832-1778). “You will need to turn in your purchased ticket at the time of the refund,” she said.
