Historic Garden Week cancelled for first time since WWII

Historic Garden Week 2020 is officially cancelled. The event, which had been planned statewide for the week of April 18-25, was put on hold this year over concerns of COVID-19. It has been sponsored annually since 1929 by the Garden Club of Virginia, with local participation from the first.

Locally, four Mathews County homes were scheduled to be open to the public on April 18—Weston Hall, Riverlawn, Palace Green and Samarkand. Christ Episcopal Church was to be the headquarters. The Garden Club of Gloucester had organized the tour.

Peggy Montgomery, chair of the local tour and member of the local club, expressed regret that circumstances made it necessary to cancel.
