HILDEGARD BOYD

Hildegard Boyd, age 87, of Roanoke, Va., died on Feb. 12, 2012 at the South Roanoke Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Silberbach, Germany, on March 29, 1924, the daughter of the late Josef Böhm and Anna Böhm. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Master Sergeant William Jefferson Boyd Jr.; her sisters, Anna Bauernfiend and Valentine Böhm, and her sister-in-law, Virginia Boyd Hudgins.

She is survived by her brother, Edward Böhm; nieces, Brunhilde Sawade, Annette Kahlert and Helga Brüde; grand-niece, Jennifer Sawade; great-grand-nieces, Melissa Stretz, Sarah Stretz and Michaela Bruderl, and great-grand-nephew, Florian Heuber, all of Germany; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Boyd Hudgins of Mathews, Va., and her brother-in-law, Walter Yates Boyd of Elon, N.C.

She married Master Sergeant Boyd on Nov. 2, 1957 and lived at various Army posts in the United States and Germany. After he retired in 1981, they continued to live in Rockville, Md., until they moved to the South Roanoke Nursing Home in 2008.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 in St. Paul Annex Cemetery in Susan, Va.
