High school sports: VHSL issues guidelines for 2020-2021 season

With the 2020-2021 schedule already changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Virginia High School League released guidelines last week for a return to participation for high school athletes, coaches, officials and fans.

The 39-page document, “Guidelines for Return to Participation,” provides guidance for school divisions to ensure a safe reopening of sports and activities, according to an announcement Friday from VHSL Director of Communications Mike McCall.

The day before this announcement, Gov. Ralph Northam signed the state’s fourth amended Executive Order 67 which includes changes to Section 12 related to recreational sports. These changes allow the VHSL Championship + 1 schedule to begin playing in December as scheduled.
