Beginning Monday, the Virginia Department of Transportation plans extended single-lane closures along a section of Hickory Fork Road at White Marsh.
"We will be extending the single-lane closure hours during summer only to 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.," said Kelly Hannon, VDOT communications manager for the Fredericksburg District.
"Once school is back in session, the lane closure hours will revert to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. so we do not disrupt school traffic," Hannon said.
The construction project, which began with clearing and grubbing on June 3, includes widening and reconstruction of an approximately one-mile section of Hickory Fork Road from George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) near the Wawa convenience store to a section of Hickory Road near Haynes Mill Pond that was improved about eight years ago. The road improvements are expected to be completed next summer.
