HERMAN LEE THOMPSON

Herman Lee Thompson, age 81, of Mathews, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2012.

He retired after 30 years of serving as the Meat Cutter at Fort Eustis Commissary. He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, and served in the Marine Corps for two years.

Herman was an active member of the American Legion Post #83 in Hudgins, Va. He was voted best male athlete at Botetourt High School in Gloucester County in 1952 and played semi-pro baseball from Camp Lejeune to Richmond, Va.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sally Ann Thompson; son, Scott Lee Thompson of North, Va.; daughter, Tracy McRacken (Rob) of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Chandler Thompson, Amanda and Patrick McRacken; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews. A graveside service will be conducted following the visitation, in the H.C. Smither Cemetery, Hudgins.
