Heritage edges out Dukes, 37-29

 

The home side of Dukes Stadium was nearly full when a controversial call put an end to a tightly-contested matchup between Gloucester and Heritage footballers on Friday night. When the clock hit zeroes the Dukes had been edged out by the Hurricanes, 37-29.

Weather conditions were muggy but the Dukes came out cold to start the game, going three and out on their opening possession before Heritage drove the field and ran the ball in for an opening-drive touchdown.

On the ensuing defensive possession for Gloucester, Heritage was called for holding and backed up inside its own 20-yard line. As Darius Price dropped back to pass and fired a dart over the middle, senior Joe Conroy tipped the ball up into the air and freshman Adam Eckstein would intercept the pass. Eckstein finished with 12 tackles to accompany the pick.

Junior quarterback Isaiah Lester eventually punched in the ball in for a touchdown, scrambling up the middle and running through two Heritage defenders for the score...
