Heritage Day

Mathews County’s maritime past was honored on Saturday at the Mathews Maritime Heritage Day celebration at Horn Harbor Marina. At right, Jacob Dalton and his uncle Steve Morley examine the intricate detail of the models of watermen’s boats that were on display under the main tent.

Here, Jimmy Godsey spent the day demonstrating the disappearing art of making a crab pot. Organized by the Mathews Maritime Foundation, the day-long festival is meant to pay tribute to the county’s rich boat building past. Photos by Charlie Koenig.
