HELEN WALDEN JENKINS WALKER

Helen Walden Jenkins Walker, age 90, originally born in Middlesex County, and a resident of Hayes for the past 70 years, passed away on Oct. 8, 2014 at the York Convalescent Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary Alice Walden; her husbands, Jennings Jenkins and Bernard Walker; her sons, Jennings Jenkins Jr. and Ricky Jenkins; six brothers, and four sisters.

Helen was a school bus driver for Gloucester County for years, secretary of the Gloucester County Transportation Department, and an employee of Village Lanes Bowling.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Pitts (husband Jack); granddaughters, Deanna Dertien (Platte, S.D.), Kelly Gregory (Lucama, N.C.) and Penny Hall (Hayes); and grandson, Ronnie Jenkins (Mathews, Va.); two great-granddaughters, and three great-grandsons.

The family received friends at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Dr. Rodney Autry and the Rev. Richard Whiteheart officiating. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Special thanks to the employees of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and York Convalescent Center for the superior care and love they extended to our family. Your kindness and compassion was just “over the top.”
