Helen Louise Weakland

Helen Louise “Grandma” Weakland, 80, of Hayes, died Sunday morning, Feb. 8, 2015, at her home with her beloved husband by her side.

Helen was born April 10, 1934, in Pennsylvania, where she grew up on a farm. After marrying Ray Weakland they operated a farm in New York. In mid-1970 they relocated to Virginia and in 1985 helped their son Ken open Green Planters Garden Center in Hayes. She cherished working at the garden center, and loved interacting with all who came by.

She was an especially good cook, loved vacationing at Disney World, and spending time with her family. She was a loving grandma to all and will be truly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond Weakland; children, Ray Weakland, Gene Weakland and wife Brenda, Cindy Popek and husband Marc, and Ken Weakland and wife Patricia; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Helen was eagerly awaiting the arrival of a ninth great-grandchild.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
