Helen Homa, 80, of Hayes, passed away Oct. 31, 2017 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

She was born in New York April 15, 1937, a daughter of Michael and Anna Zihal.

Helen was spunky, a generous giver, playful and fun-loving and a peacekeeper. She loved decorating for the holidays, Christmas and anything to do with owls. She was a beloved mother, grandma (Nana), great-grandma and great-great-grandma who was loved so much and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Peter Homa.

She is survived by her children, Susanne (Curtis) Mayer, Jeffrey Ashberry, Stephen (Lorraine) Ashberry, Ruth Ashberry and Laurie Ashberry; her puppy, “Pepper”; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a sister, Mary Marte of Massapequa, New York.

A celebration of life service conducted by the Rev. Phillip Herring was held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Inurnment will be later at Florida Memorial Gardens. The family greeted friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 11-noon at the funeral home.
