HECTOR ALFRED ROBERTS

Hector Alfred Roberts, 82, of Claremont, New Hampshire, passed away on Sept. 2, 2017 in Gloucester.

A formal mass with military service will be held at a later date in Claremont, New Hampshire.

Hector was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire, to Hector and Idora Roberts on Dec. 10, 1935. He attended Northwestern University in Boston, Massachusetts. He married wife Gloria on Aug. 6, 1960, in Claremont.

He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and served in both the Army and Navy. He served 22 combined years and was proudly both Airborne and a Navy Seabee. He was awarded multiple Conduct Awards, and wore the following decorations: National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, RVN Civic Action Unit Citation, (1st CL), Basic Parachutist Insignia, Expert Rifleman Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Staff Serv. Medal (2nd CL-RVN Medal), Navy Commendation Medal Combat V, M16 Rifle Sharpshooter, Battle “E” 81mm Mortar 1st CL Gunner, Bronze Star Combat V, Army Master Parachute and Navy Gold Parachute Insignia.

He went on to a second career with Home Land Security and retired after 20+ years. He was a commander for the VFW, a member of the American Legion, the ELKS, and numerous other organizations.

However, above all else his family was his greatest legacy. He believed that life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting “Holy Moly… What a ride!”

Hector was preceded in death by his parents, Hector and Idora Roberts.

Hector is survived by wife, Gloria Roberts; children, Kim-Ann Roberts, Michael and Donna Roberts, and Bradley and Gena Roberts. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; grandchildren, Jennifer Bays, John and Shay Webber, Ashley and David Keeler, Jacob Roberts, Alaina Roberts, Cait and Jacob Bennett, Taylor and Jason Kovach, Tyler and Brittany Skon; great-grandchildren, Jaiden Rivera, Dru Webber, Camden Webber, Mackenzie Hughes, Jared Bays, Lilly Webber, and Journey Bays.

Services will be held at a later date in New Hampshire.
