Hearings next month on event venues, solar energy facilities

After several months discussing event venues and solar energy facilities, the Gloucester County Planning Commission finally agreed to take both of those matters to public hearings.

The hearings will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, in the colonial courthouse.

During the commission’s meeting last Thursday night, members discussed definitions, district regulations, and supplemental regulations for event venues. Senior planner Carol Rizzio said the suggested code amendments should not regulate or limit non-commercial and charitable events.

A limited event venue would be for an accessory use, not for a principal use, of a property, Rizzio said.

Also, event venues would have requirements for signage and parking, Rizzio said, and would need to meet state road access requirements and health department standards.
