Hearing Tuesday on six-year road plan

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing Tuesday on the county’s six-year road plan. The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. in the historic courthouse.

Current roads included on the plan are North River Road, where work is already underway at a total projected cost of $2.13 million; Lillies Lane, expected to cost $60,048; Brittany Lane, at $85,498; Heath Road ($45,725); Old House Woods Road ($65,000), and Kings Landing Road ($73,000).

All the roads except North River Road are part of the Rural Rustic Road Program, which calls for simply surface-treating roads that currently are not hard-surfaced, said Sean Trapani, the VDOT Saluda residency administrator. The process requires minimal engineering and planning since the roads are simply paved over without adding capacity, which accounts for the lower cost.
