The Gloucester County School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Gloucester High School auditorium. The meeting includes a public hearing on the proposed redistricting of elementary school attendance zones for the 2021-2022 school year.
The redistricting is necessary because Botetourt Elementary currently has an enrollment of 627 students, while the other four county elementary schools have enrollments of fewer than 500.
Current enrollment figures have 490 children enrolled at Abingdon, 421 at Bethel, 376 at Achilles and 247 at Petsworth. The board is considering three options, all of which would move some Botetourt students to Bethel and some to Petsworth. The options also move some Abingdon students to Achilles.
The board is also expected to consider replacing its planned basic infrastructure improvements at GHS with a full renovation plan as proposed in its GHS Master Plan in its 2022 budget. The change would boost the cost of GHS renovations from $43 million to $75.9 millio...
