Hearing Tuesday on rescheduled CUP request for Dollar General

Mathews County’s planning commission and board of supervisors will hold a joint public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse on Court Street to consider a request for a conditional use permit for a Dollar General Store at Hudgins.

Venture Properties VII LLC has applied for the permit on behalf of Dollar General Corporation, which plans to build a 9,100-square-foot facility at the site, located at 8143 Buckley Hall Road. Currently zoned rural, it consists of 4.02 acres on which sits a ca. 1936 two-story, two-bedroom home. Venture Properties proposes to demolish the house and erect a one-story structure.

A public hearing on the matter that was previously scheduled for April was postponed because the applicant had not included information on ingress and egress to satisfy Virginia Department of Transportation requirements.
