Hearing Tuesday on proposal to renew restaurant lease

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on a proposal to renew Ralph and Mary Valdrighi’s lease to the Seabreeze Restaurant during a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse.

The county owns the Gwynn’s Island property where the restaurant is located, and the current lease expires at the end of the month.

Also, county administrator Steve Whiteway will provide supervisors an update on the East River Boat Yard, and the board will discuss the use of county-owned piers by watermen and recreational boaters.

In addition, Allen T. Ward will be recognized for his retirement after more than 30 years of service as the county’s building official.

Under new business, the board will consider such budget matters as transferring funds among categories to maintain positive balances in the current fiscal year, making any necessary amendments to the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, and appropriating funds to various departments.
