Hearing Tuesday on funding for new Page MS

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at its meeting Tuesday night to consider authorizing the issuance of $6 million in general obligation school bonds for the construction of a new Page Middle School.

The meeting will be held at 7 o’clock in the colonial courthouse; the public hearing portion is set to start at 8.

The interest-free bonds are proposed to finance some or all of the costs associated with building Page—architectural and engineering services, site improvements and/or construction costs—which together will constitute a capital project for public school purposes.

County supervisors have agreed to give the school division $18 million for the new school to go along with $8 million in insurance proceeds. It has not been determined whether the $6 million would supplement the promised $18 million or be added to it.

Page Middle School, mostly destroyed by a tornado in April 2011, has now been completely razed.
