Hearing tonight on state park

Residents will be able to make their voices heard tonight regarding the “Gateway to Werowocomoco” state park project, at the site long known as Timberneck.

A public hearing will be held during the Gloucester County Planning Commission meeting in the historic courthouse, starting at 7. The hearing is scheduled for 7:30.

A proposed rezoning of the Timberneck site would remove proffers related to the once-planned residential development, opening the door for the site to transition into a park.

A public information session in June was well attended and saw minimal opposition voiced on the floor; however, the volume of opposition has since increased.

During the June session held at the T.C. Walker Educational Center, a few citizens voiced opposition to the proposed boat launch and overnight stay dwellings, components of the site plan geared to boosting use of the park.
