Hearing Monday on Gloucester’s $114M budget

Gloucester residents will have an opportunity Monday night to formally express their views on the county administrator’s proposed fiscal year 2015-16 $114 million budget and its associated tax rates.

Public hearings on the matters are scheduled to begin at 7 o’clock in the T.C. Walker Education Center auditorium.

Gloucester County Administrator Brenda Garton first presented the budget March 3, and said then that many funding requests were not included in the budget in order to maintain an equalized real estate tax rate of 68 cents per $100 of assessed value.

The 68-cent figure was as high as the majority of the board of supervisors agreed to advertise the tax rate for the public hearing. The current real estate tax rate stands at 65 cents, but there was an overall decrease in property values following January’s reassessment.
