Hearing Monday on future of East River Boat Yard

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors will hold a special work session on future development of the East River Boat Yard at 7 p.m. Monday in the historic courthouse.

The board will hear comments from two aquaculture businesses that responded to the county’s January 2019 request for proposals as well as from residents who have an interest in the site, said a press release.

The one-acre site at the end of Mill Lane Road was purchased by the county in 2004 for $250,000.

Supervisors recently approved a rezoning of the parcel from waterfront residential to waterfront business. Permitted uses there include public access and aquaculture, said the release. A site plan for public access at the boat yard that was prepared in 2015 by the engineering design firm Vanasse Hangen Brustlin may be modified if the board decides to add a commercial component to the site, said the release. ...
