The Mathews County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 3 p.m. Monday on an application for a conditional use permit for a telecommunications tower at Cobbs Creek. This is a special meeting called by the board for the purpose of having the public hearing.
The tower, if approved, would be a 195-foot, self-supporting monopole telecommunications tower with a four-foot lightning rod at the top. It would be located on a 10,000-square-foot portion of a 26.9-acre parcel 190 feet from Cobbs Creek Lane near its intersection with Buckley Hall Road. The tax map number is 4-A-119.
The CUP is being requested by The Towers LLC and Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless, along with property owners Matthew and Stephanie Lowe.
According to the application, the purpose of the tower is to improve voice and data services, including broadband, along Route 198 and nearby areas. It would also connect to seven other nearby towers.
