Hazel T. Harris, 85, of Hayes, died Jan. 14, 2016 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

Hazel was born Jan. 26, 1930 to Benjamin and Mary Terry who preceded her in death. Hazel was an extended mother to many children she provided care to over many years. She loved the children and cared for them with so much love and gentleness. Hazel loved to cook, enjoyed gardening and flowers. Hazel will never be forgotten and greatly missed by her devoted family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Royal Harris, and her son, Bernard Royal Harris.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Cindy Ward and husband Alvin Byrd; devoted grandchildren, Angie Denson and husband Jeff, Mark Ward and wife Jill, Lloyd Ward and wife Kim, Kristy Harris, and Joseph Harris and wife Rebecca, and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Deborah Marion was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family received friends at the home of Cindy and Alvin Ward, 8192 Guinea Road, Hayes, Va.
