HAZEL NOEL ADAMS

Hazel Noel Adams, 83, of Hampton, died Thursday, April 23, 2015.

A native of Pittsburgh, she moved to the Peninsula in 1947. Here she met her husband, Charles Keel Adams, and they moved to Hampton and began their family. While raising her children, she went back to school, first at Thomas Nelson Community College, then graduating from Old Dominion University. She worked in the library at most every school in Hampton, and retired in 1988 after 20 years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and volunteered with the missions programs at the church and was always very active with programs at school.

Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Keel Adams, and her parents, Sloan and Susan Noel; survivors include her son, William G. Adams and his wife Barbara of Chesapeake; two daughters, Penny A. Gilliland and her husband Robert, and Kathleen A. Faron and her husband Mark, all of Hampton; her “adopted” daughter, Louise Lacks of Hampton; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, with another one on the way.

A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Cynthia Rosser-Higgins. Interment followed in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. The family received friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
