Haywood throws one-hitter

The Gloucester High School varsity softball team is 15-2 overall and 3-1 in Conference 10 play going into its final two games of the regular season.

Weather permitting, the Dukes will travel to Menchville today and to Riverside Elementary to face Warwick Friday, with both games beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Gloucester is expected to open the first round of the conference tournament on Tuesday against a yet-to-be-determined opponent at the Stoney Run Sports Complex in Newport News.

Until today, the weather had not permitted any play this week and has really made a mess of the last weeks of the season. After a 15-day break due to the deluge of rain, the Dukes came out swinging in their 16-0 win over Hampton last Thursday at GHS.

Gloucester pounded the Crabber pitching for 15 hits with eight for extra bases. Kaleigh Arnett led the offensive barrage with three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs.
