Hayes rezoning to be considered at June public hearing

The Gloucester County Planning Commission heard from staff about a proposed rezoning from Single Family (SF-1) to Business (B-1) between Hogg Funeral Home and the Abingdon Heights housing development on Route 17 in Hayes.

Staff briefed the commissioners during last Thursday’s meeting about the proposal for the 1.62-acre parcel, which is scheduled for a June public hearing.

The applicants, David and Joyce Bristow, are seeking the rezoning of the parcel. Complicating matters for the planners is the fact that the applicants have no listed use or site plan, and are simply requesting the land be rezoned.

Roughly half the lot is wooded and the other half is paved and used for parking. The parcels are deemed “transitional spaces” by the comprehensive plan.

“We originally thought this was to improve parking,” said Director of Planning and Zoning Anne Ducey-Ortiz. “But there is no proposal; they just think it makes sense for it to be B1.”
