Harry A. Gary Jr., 76, of Hayes, passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Adelaide Gary; sister, Adelaide Raymond; brother, Jerry S. Gary, and sister-in-law, Betty Gary.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joan Cooper Gary; three sons, John, Harry III (Kim) and William (Shirley); seven grandchildren, Stacey, Rachel, Julie, Katie, Ryan, Noah and Molly; one great-granddaughter, Liana; four brothers, Charles, Forrest, Rosco and Warren; three sisters, Harryette Thomas, Mary Ellen Vanzant, and Carolyn Gary.

Harry retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1999 after 41 years of service in department 038. He enjoyed going to auctions, working in his yard, and spending time with his grandchildren.

The visitation will be Thursday at 12 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home, with the funeral service following at 1 o’clock. Interment will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Salvation Army or to a charity of your choice.
