Harris, Mullins win Governor’s Cup

The 2018 Virginia Governor’s Cup Regatta was held Aug. 4 and 5 at the Ware River Yacht Club and drew almost 85 boats, according to regatta chairman Clayton James. 

The Albacore was the largest class in the multiclass regatta, giving the Albacore champion the rights to the event’s namesake cup. Albacore skipper Barney Harris, with Lee Mullins as his crew, swept all six races to win the Governor’s Cup. The sailors are both members of Potomac River Sailing Association.

Jeff Neurauter and Heather Howard of PRSA won the Buccaneer class in a field of nine boats and Jackson Montague and Latane Montague of Fishing Bay Yacht Club won the Hampton class in a field of 10 boats.

Jack McKenna won the Laser Radial class and Jack Cabell of FBYC won the Laser class. FBYC members Mae Angus and Elanor Patterson won the 420 class and James and Linda Heffernan won the Wayfarer class. Sunfish skipper John Meyer won the Portsmouth class.
