Harold E. “Sam” Lavely, 82, of Hayes, died Aug. 24, 2017.

He served his country in the U.S. Army for 22 years, then worked for the Newport News Waterworks. Sam enjoyed his hobbies of golf, fishing, bowling and horse racing. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Lavely; a grandson; and brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his children, Darlene Lavely-Cunliffe, Stephanie Bradley, Louise Evilsizer (Mike), Gina Reid (Scott), Todd Lavely (Dawn) and Lisa Lavely; 11 grandchildren, and brother, Owen Lavely.

Funeral service with military honors was at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. The family received friends prior to the service from 2-3 on Sunday at the funeral home. Inurnment was private.
