Happy birthday, Baron

Waterview neighbors at Gloucester Point gathered to celebrate the 290th birthday of Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, for whom their neighborhood street is named. Steuben was a Prussian and later an American military officer. He was born in Magdeburg, Germany, on Sept. 17, 1730. He served as the Continental Army’s Inspector General, training patriot troops during the American Revolution. He died in Utica, New York, on Nov. 28, 1794.
