HANSFORD R. (BUTCH) HARRIS JR.

Gloucester native and lifelong resident Hansford R (Butch) Harris Jr. passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Butch was born on June 19, 1957 to Hansford R. Harris and Sylvia June Robinson. He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 42 years, JoAnne Harris; son, Christopher R. Harris (Angel); son, Joshua R. Harris (Cecelie); grandsons, Darren M. Hair, Tyler R. Harris and granddaughter, Addison L. Harris; mother, Sylvia J. Robinson; brothers, Timothy K. Harris, Cecil M. Harris (Julie), Daniel K. Harris, and Randolph A. Harris (Tina). Butch graduated from Gloucester High School. He loved working with his hands and soon became a master carpenter. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t build and to perfection. Butch worked for Virginia Commercial Maintenance building commercial buildings. He traveled all over to states to build gas stations, from North Carolina to New York, before retiring. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time on the beach. His passion was offshore fishing. He loved seeing the sunrise in the mornings on the ocean. We will all remember Butch with his smile and how he loved to make his friends and family laugh. He was a member and served at Cornerstone Fellowship Church. The family would like to thank Concordia Home Health for allowing Hazel Thomas (caregiver) to care for Butch. She had a special place in Butch’s heart. Also, the family would like to thank Riverside Walter Reed Hospice for their special care and compassion. In memory of our loved one, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060. Services will be private; under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
