HANSFORD EARL SMITH SR.

Hansford Earl “Dook” Smith Sr., 69, of Hayes, died Oct. 28, 2013 at The Gardens at Warwick Forest.

Dook, a native of Gloucester County, was a hard-working man who was very talented with his hands. He was associated with Riggins Motor Company in Poquoson for 20 years, and was on the staff of Hogg Funeral Home for more than 20 years.

He enjoyed working in his yard and garden that he so meticulously nurtured. Dook would tackle any project with much enthusiasm and became a master at whatever he was working on. He was very responsible and caring and loved his family very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Daisy Smith, and brothers, Harold Dean Smith and Herman L. Smith Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jeanette Smith; son, Hansford E. Smith Jr.; daughter, Betty Sue Martin and husband Bill; grandchildren, Elizabeth S. Gantt and husband Jayden, Melanie F. Chattin and husband Daniel, and Christopher L. Fox and wife Jamie; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen S. Rowe and Hilda Whitty; special friends, Sandi and Phil Pernell and Donna Lisa Green.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Carol Bookwalter will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment will follow in Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
