Hampton man arrested at Hayes gas station on drug charges

A Hampton man allegedly in possession of cocaine and heroin was arrested Friday by members of the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office and the Tri-Rivers Drug Task Force.

GSO and task force officers approached the suspect at about 10:30 a.m. while he was at the gas pumps at the Shell gas station on Route 17 in Hayes, according to GSO Major Ryan Cookson. Cookson said the suspect attempted to flee the area in his vehicle and struck several unmarked police vehicles while trying to exit the parking lot.

Deputies were able to stop the suspect’s vehicle and take him into custody. Cookson said two of the officers involved sustained minor injuries.

Arrested was Edward Abioseh Cole, 30, of Wakefield Avenue in Hampton. Cookson said a search of Cole’s vehicle found a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun, 33.1 grams of crack cocaine, 15.6 grams of heroin and $1,165 in U.S. currency.
