Hair Creations celebrates 30 years in business

Valerie Bass, owner of Hair Creations in Mathews, celebrated a milestone last week. The family hair care business has served men, women and children in the county for 30 years.

Bass started the business with her dear friend, the late Janice Lee Mitchem, in a space adjacent to the former Twigg Motor Company, which in later years was known as Christie Chevrolet.

In 1990, the business moved next door to share a space inside Stewart’s Tile and Carpet Center. Both businesses moved to a new location on Buckley Hall Road across the street from Bank of America in the summer of 2010.

Looking back over three decades of business, Bass said the greatest thing to her has been the community and her customers. "They have been family to us," she said. "We shared in their ups and downs and they shared in our ups and downs."

Bass said she plans to host a celebration for her customers and friends in the community later this spring once the weather warms up.
