GWENDOLYN W. THRIFT

Gwendolyn W. Thrift, 86, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Denton, Texas, on Friday, July 18, 2025.
She was born on June 27, 1939, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Marguerite and James Wharton. Gwen was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Bobby Thrift, and sister, Delores Kerns.

Mom immensely enjoyed her time spent with her chil-dren and theirs. It was a major cornerstone in her life, and she loved them all very much. She loved to just let the day unfold and we all jokingly laughed at how she would still be in her “daycoat” long into the afternoon. She spent countless hours helping and assisting her husband in his many work endeavors and in her later years would reminisce and would say how she longed to be back by his side.

She is survived by her brother, James T. Wharton Jr. (Ellen), and her children, Tammy Toddy (Mark), Terri Roberts (Jim), Tabb Thrift (Tammy), and Nanette Chinen (Troy). She was Nana to her grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, Meredith, Katy, Christina, Colbey, Hailey, Jordan, and Lauren Grace; great-grandchildren, Michael, Zoe, Eliza, and Phoenix; great-great-grandchild, Evalin, along with other nieces and nephews. Her special loved ones included JoNell Robertson (CT), Alice Rose and her family, and Donald (late) and Jeanie Campbell and all of their family.

“Love you, miss you, see you” was a sentiment she valued greatly, as she never wanted to hear or say good-bye. Keeping this tradition helps us carry on her memory.

Services will be private and held at a later date. In her memory, take the time to be with your loved ones, and enjoy the years you are given to be together. Mom and Dad supported many associations and causes, so they would be honored by any donation made in her memory to your favorite cause.
