The Gloucester Union Relief Association of Missionary Baptist organized a Veterans Day program, “A Salute to Our Veterans,” held Tuesday morning at First Morning Star Baptist Church in Bena.
“All gave some, but some gave all,” said GURA President Rev. Vincent Pryor of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church who served in the Navy. He said they were gathered “to remember those who have served and sacrificed.”
Dr. Mary Ackes Hayes of Zion Branch Baptist Church, Saluda, an Army veteran, was the worship leader for the Combined Veterans Choir Tuesday. Music was provided by Leander Myers, an Army veteran of First Morning Star.
“We are the United States of America,” said Hayes. “Regardless of what’s going on in the world today, we are still united in Christ.”
Old Testament and New Testament scriptures were read by Deacon Charles Roy Wright of First Morning Star and Deacon Roland Billups of Bethel Baptist Church, respectively.
