Acclaimed guitarist Larry Carlton and his band are coming to Kilmarnock on Saturday, Sept. 10, to open the 2022-23 On Stage season of the Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts.

The four-time Grammy winner, who has played with everyone from Joni Mitchell to Sammy Davis Jr., will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Middle School Theater. In his show, “The ’78 Album: Steely Dan Remembered,” Carlton will share songs and stories from his days as primary guitarist for Steely Dan. Those days included a memorable guitar solo on “Kid Charlemagne,” which Rolling Stone magazine calls one of the three best guitar licks in rock music.

“What better way to kick off a new season of live performances than to celebrate the virtuosity, personal warmth, and energy of Larry Carlton,” said RFA board president Rita Grinbergs. “In his solo career, he has released 38 albums. He’s performed on 100 albums that have gone Gold or Platinum. And he’s recorded for film and TV (remember the theme to ‘Hill Stre...
