Guinea Jubilee season begins Sunday with Heritage Day

The Guinea Jubilee is just a few weeks away, and to get the public ready for this annual community celebration, Guinea Heritage Day will be held on Sunday afternoon.

Doors will open to the Abingdon Ruritan Club building in Bena at 1:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 2.

“This is the first year we are combining the beauty contest in the middle of the program,” said Guinea Heritage Association chair Ginny Snowden. In past years, the pageant was held later in the afternoon.

Sunday’s program begins with the recognition of past grand marshals and the 2017 scholarship and student art winners. That will be followed with the Miss Guinea Jubilee Pageant.

After the pageant, the 2017 parade grand marshal and print contest winner will be announced and the 2017 Miss Guinea Jubilee and the age group winners will be crowned.
