Guinea Jubilee draws large crowds

This past weekend’s 33rd annual Guinea Jubilee drew a large crowd and a great overall community response, despite less than ideal weather conditions.

"We were very pleased," said Tara Thomas, who chairs the Guinea Jubilee Committee along with her husband Brook. "Despite the weather, we seemed to have had good crowds."

The two-day festival began Friday afternoon under sunny conditions before rain started falling later that evening. Festival-goers woke up Saturday morning to passing showers, but still braved the damp to enjoy the parade.

The rain let up by Saturday afternoon and all of the day’s activities went on as planned, including Saturday night’s fireworks display which concluded the festival.

This year’s Jubilee attracted nearly 50 vendors, Thomas said, that only one or two backed out after inclement weather was forecast.
