Guinea Jubilee celebrates 43rd year

The 43rd annual Guinea Jubilee will be held Friday and Saturday at 8784 Guinea Road in Hayes, rain or shine.

The festival opens Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. with arts and crafts vendors and food booths. Right Turn Clyde Band will play on the Main Stage, beginning at 7 p.m. The day’s festivities will conclude at 10 p.m.

Saturday’s activities start early with the Kids Run and Guinea Jubilee 5K registration beginning at 7 a.m. at Buck’s Store Museum. The race will begin at 8 a.m. at the Abingdon Volunteer Fire & Rescue building. The Kids Crabby Fun Run will begin at the station at 8:30 a.m.

The arts and crafts vendors and food booths will reopen at 9 a.m. This year’s grand marshal, Shirley West Hogge, will lead the Guinea Jubilee’s Fireman’s Parade at noon, which will step off from Union Baptist Church and travel one mile past Buck’s Store to end at the Abingdon Ruritan Club.

At 1 p.m., Lana Puckett & Kim Persons will perform on the pavilion stage. The Anchor Throwing and Crab Pot Pulling contests will begin at 2 p.m. on the platform left of the main stage.

Ron Fetner will perform on the pavilion stage at 3 p.m., followed by Amelia Hogge at 5 p.m. CRAZY X will perform on the main stage beginning at 6 p.m. At 9 p.m., fireworks will be lit and this year’s festival will officially conclude at 9:15 p.m.
