The Gloucester Rowing Association, a 501(c)(3) organization, will host its seventh annual Guinea Dipping fundraiser from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, rain or shine, at the Gloucester Point Beach, as members of the crew and community will brave the frigid waters of the York River to raise funds for the GRA.
For $30 a person, participants can take the polar plunge and receive an event T-shirt while raising funds to help GRA continue to make this sport possible for Gloucester teenagers. This year, GRA is specifically raising funds to purchase a heavyweight double rowing shell, a boat that the organization will need for the spring regatta season.
GRA is also accepting business/personal sponsorships of various levels, which include the following:
—First-level sponsors will have their company name on the team’s van, T-shirt and event banner and receive one entry for Guinea Dipping for $500;
—Second-level sponsors will have their company name on the T-shirt and event banner and receive one entry for Guinea Dipping for $250;
—Third-level sponsors will have their company name on the T-shirt and on the event banner for $150; and,
—Fourth-level sponsors will have their company name on the T-shirt for $100.
GRA relies on student dues, multiple fundraisers and sponsorships to keep the program operating. The Guinea Dipping, along with other fundraising efforts, helps to minimize the rising costs of travel, maintenance and purchasing of equipment and fees associated with crew.
The event will also feature music, food, hot drinks and raffles. Dipping will take place at noon.
