GUEST to hold annual board meeting Sunday

The Board of Directors of the Gloucester United Emergency Shelter Team (GUEST) will hold its annual board meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Ware Episcopal Church Parish Hall, Route 14, Gloucester.

Board chair Bill Parks will preside. The agenda will include recognition of the many individuals and church congregations that have supported the services of GUEST over the last several years. The organization’s new Executive Director, Michelle Wells, will also be recognized. Church congregations as well as members of the community are invited to attend.

With the winter season approaching, the GUEST program needs winter clothing which include long-sleeved shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, coats, tennis shoes and boots (sizes 10-14) and thermal underwear. Food items needed are canned or pouched chicken or tuna, instant oatmeal packets, canned stews, and ready-made meals in pouches. The program also is in need of blankets. These items can be dropped off at the GUEST Day Shelter on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The GUEST Shelter is located at 6536 Moose Drive, Gloucester.

The GUEST Program provides temporary emergency shelter during winter months beginning in December of each year. They partner with Jubilee Churches with the goal of preventing individuals and families from becoming homeless. Churches in the community provide the emergency shelter needed for a week at a time from December through March of each year. Churches and civic organizations also provide meals throughout the year at the GUEST Day Program.

Church congregations or civic organizations interested in becoming a host site, are asked to contact Wells at 804-792-5046 or email info@guestshelter.org. GUEST donations can be made by mail at GUEST, P.O. Box 1544, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
