GUEST program concludes 2nd season

In its second season, which concluded this week, the Gloucester United Emergency Shelter Team (GUEST) program provided shelter to an average of 13 guests per night at its host churches, with 39 different people registered as guests from Dec. 1, 2014 through March 31.

Some nights, the shelter saw upwards of 18 people in need of its services. According to GUEST board member Jay Fox, volunteers were always available to cover the 63 different shifts each week for the entire 16-week length of the program. Board members took some time to reflect on the season at its meeting Tuesday morning at First Presbyterian Church, Gloucester.

Although the night shelter component of the GUEST program is at an end, the day shelter located next to the Gloucester Moose Lodge will remain open, at least through April, to continue to serve those in need. It is scheduled to be open Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
