GROVER ‘LEE’ OWENS JR.

Grover “Lee” Owens Jr., 62, of Port Haywood, Va., went to be with his Lord on May 27, 2016.

Lee Owens had many talents. He enjoyed being on the water and hunting.  He also had a passion for restoring classic cars and had a love for music. In his younger years he was known for being a starting member of the Southern Knights Band.

Lee was a master carpenter who helped build and restore wooden workboats and also built several Chesapeake Bay deadrise models. Lee learned the art of boatbuilding from his father, Grover Lee Owens Sr. Lee also worked many years as a waterman on the Chesapeake Bay.  

He is survived by two sons, Brent Allen Owens and Brian Lee Dehnert; one granddaughter, Gabrielle Dehnert; his mother, Selena A. Gray; siblings, Lynne (Wayne) Morgan, Bobby Owens, and Teresa Gray;  and special nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Grover Lee Owens III and Kevin Lee Owens; his beloved son, Branden Lee Owens; his father, Grover Lee Owens Sr., step-father John Boyd Gray and grandparents, Walter and Harriet Grimstead, and Ethel and Dolson Owens.  

The family received friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow at St. Paul Annex Cemetery, Susan, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O Box 723, Mathews, Va. 23109.
