Gloucester High School graduate Kirsten Greene and the Norfolk State University Spartans split a four-game series last weekend with the Morehead State Eagles.
Greene pitched superbly in two and a third innings of relief in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday evening. Greene entered the game with two out in the fifth inning and promptly retired all seven batters she faced by strikeout. The second-year player did not give up a hit, walked one and yielded one unearned run. NSU would go on to lose, 9-5, in Saturday’s nightcap. Greene’s quality relief effort earned her a start in game two of the Sunday doubleheader.
Greene’s start in game two was the first of her collegiate career. She pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up two hits and one run and struck out two without issuing a walk. Greene earned a no-decision as the Spartans lost, 3-2, in eight inn-ings.
